Madison Continues Support of Loudoun Impact Fund

Since 2014, the Madison team has been a member of the Loudoun Impact Fund (“LIF”), a giving circle comprised of philanthropically minded citizens and corporations. LIF grants help to fill in the gaps for programs, causes or places in Loudoun County, Virginia deserving of attention but perhaps flying under the radar of public awareness. Last year, Madison’s Jim and Rebecca McDermott co-chaired the giving circle along with friends, Bob & Debra Macher, helping to raise nearly $100,000 (close to double the prior year’s amount).  The money was donated to ten Loudoun County charities primarily focused on at-risk youth.

This year’s circle, co-chaired by David and Caroline Schaefer and Bill and Jen Tyrrell, is hosting their annual kickoff event on May 30 (see invitation below) and has a goal of raising at least $150,000.  Generally, the Fund invests its resources to:

  • Scale up important initiatives that can drive big changes in the county
  • Support the needs of Loudoun families, children and youth, and
  • Promote education, the arts and the environment

Madison joined LIF to further our philanthropic commitment to communities in which we work and live.  We believe LIF provides an ideal way for members to give in a targeted and well informed fashion with tools to measure the impact of our efforts.

Like many “wealthy” counties, Loudoun has some complex community needs, including affordable housing and the challenges to the county’s education and health infrastructures caused by an ever growing and widely diverse population. LIF offers an opportunity to proactively decide what sort of efforts the group’s members wish to support in the county and then award grants to organizations and individuals focused on improving those areas.
