Madison Celebrates a Day at the Races!

On a recent, chilly Sunday afternoon, Madison Wealth Management celebrated its annual Day at the Races appreciation event at the historic Oatlands Plantation near Leesburg, Virginia.

More than 100 guests joined us at our tented rail spot to enjoy the hot chocolate, sangria, lunch, dessert and steeplechase horse racing. This year marked the 52nd running of the races, featuring point-to-point and side saddle exhibition competitions. Despite the cold weather, the event drew a sold out crowd who watched this year’s riders compete in five races over some of the most challenging timber and hurdle courses in the area.

Chasing from ‘steeple to steeple’ or point-to-point can be traced back to Ireland over 250 years ago. In the early 1750s, neighbors challenged each other to race from church to church, jumping over hedges and stone walls. The competition endures today, where we are fortunate to have open land suitable for these courses.

The Race represents one of the largest fundraisers for the Loudoun Hunt each year.  Event funds also go to support the Oatlands Plantation, which is a lovely 260 acre farm with terraced gardens, a classic early 1800s Federal style mansion and unique outbuildings—all of which are owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Oatlands has hosted the races since its inception over half a century ago.

We are truly grateful to all of our clients and friends of the firm, and enjoyed sharing a wonderful day in the Virginia countryside with many of you and your children.

We look forward to next year!
